Complete History of the Ad People, a Giant Nation Believed to Have Built the Pyramids
CAIRO - The Ad People are one of the groups mentioned in the Qur'an and are believed by Egyptian archaeologists to be giants who built the Pramida. They belong to an ancient tribe that once inhabited the Yemeni region.
Ad people are giant humans who have strong and large bodies and live richly. They worshiped idols so that Allah sent a prophet named Hud to invite them to return to their faith.
The Ad people's denial of Hud's prophethood resulted in the extermination of the Ad people through disasters in the form of droughts and typhoons.
The name Ad was taken from the name of one of their ancestors named `Ad. According to the scholars, his lineage is Ad bin Us/Aush bin Aram/Iram bin Shem/Sam bin Nuh. In history, there were two Ad groups, namely the early or first Ad and the late or second Ad. The early Ad people were the successors of the Prophet Noah's people and were the first people to worship idols after the great flood. They worship idols named Shamad, Shamud, and Huran.
The second Ad people came after the early Ad people were destroyed. Prophet Hud was sent to the early Ad people. The second Ad people came from Qahthan and Saba' in the Yemen region. Some historians say that the second Ad people were the Thamud people.
“And verily it is He who has destroyed the early Ad people.” An-Najm (53): 50 In the narration about the envoys of the Ad people who went to Mecca, there are several opinions.
Muhammad bin Ishaq is of the opinion that they were the same Ad people as the people that Prophet Hud preached to. It is said that Hud and his followers had moved to another place so that they were not subject to punishment. Muhammad bin Ishaq continued that the Ad people in Mecca survived and their descendants were later known as the final Ad people.
Ibn Kathir is of the opinion that the narration is talking about the second Ad people.
This is because in the narration it is mentioned about Mecca, even though Mecca was only built during the time of Ibrahim. The style of language of the poem recited by Mu'awiyah bin Bakr is also not typical of the early Ad people.
It is also said that the cloud brought bad fire, even though the early Ad people were destroyed by very strong cold winds. Ibn Kathir also believes that the Ad people mentioned in surah Al-Ahqaf are the second Ad people, while the Ad people described in other surahs are the early Ad people.
It is mentioned in the story of the Bedouin tribe that the king of the Ad people had a palace where the women and their horses lived, then they were all destroyed with fire from heaven for their sins. It is believed that their ruins are somewhere in the Rub' al Khali, a vast desert located on the southern Arabian peninsula.
The Ad settlement is located between Amman and Hadramaut in
Yemen. Their place of residence is a cape area with sandy hills. The name of
the place is Ash-Syihr. This settlement is in the valley
